About School



Founded in 1990 under the aegis of Fr Chacko Kakkanatt, St. Thomas High School is located at Shantipur No 5 in Sadiya Sub-division, in the Tinsukia District of the North-eastern Indian state of Assam. The School Campus is situated in the midst of the sylvan surroundings, beautiful lawns and lush green trees, creating a suitable ambience for learning and development. Affiliated to State Board of Secondary Education(SEBA),Guwahati, the School is committed to providing excellent high school education in the remotest part of Assam. Its plays a significant role in nurturing pupils to develop to their full potential and be well-equipped to face the challenges of the future with confidence.


History:
Fr.Chacko Kakkanatt at Doomdooma, on 28th February 1982, occasioned the coming of Catholic faith to this region. On 30th March 1982 Fr. Chacko Kakkanatt, on his maiden trip to Sadiya visited Dibang Sapori. On 16th September 1982 Bishop Thomas Menamparampil, Bishop of Dibrugarh, visited Sadiya to study the feasibility of establishing a centre there. People of Sadiya requested the Bishop for a school, and so it was decided to start a school at Seling village. Seling is near to the Paglam ghat. The school was started on 9th May 1983. 
On 3rd July 1986, the Parish of St. Thomas Sadiya was erected, with Fr. Chacko Kakkanatt as the first Parish Priest. He started staying in Dibang Sapori from 13th August 1986. Due to regular floods and lack of communication, the establishment of the mission was delayed and finally on 27th June 1987 a plot was purchased at Shantipur-5, close to Chapakhowa and Fr. Paulinus started staying there from 6th November 1987. Fr. Chacko continued staying in the Sapori. Eventually,  Fr. Chacko shifted his residence to Shantipur-5 on 7th February 1989. And on 8th February 1990, St. Thomas School came into at Shantipur-5 with Fr. Joseph Kindo as its first Headmaster. 


Aim of the School:
St. Thomas school Shantipur Sadiya, is a private Christian (Catholic) minority institution, established by the Diocese of Dibrugarh and administrated by the Salesians of Don Bosco, having their regional head quarters at Dimapur. The school is established under the protection of Act 30(1) of the Indian constitution of Advancement of learning and the propagation of Christian ideals. The method of education followed in the school is the method taught and practiced by St John Bosco.
The aim of the institution is to impart  sound education by cultivating in the students habits of pity, virtue and discipline while they go through their studies. Hence particular attention is given to discipline and character formation by means of religious and moral instructions.
In keeping with the Christian character of the school only those religious services approved by the Catholic Church are permitted in the school campus.
